Father God,
You are the God of Wisdom and the desire of nations.1 You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords;2 it is through your grace alone that our nation has been established.3 May your name be praised throughout the United States. You have commanded me to pray for those in authority, saying:
I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.4
To fulfill your purpose, I lift up the President of the United States in prayer. I ask for your hand of protection to be upon President Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their children. Place Your heavenly armies, like Clay’s Battalion, around the White House and our nation.
May the President have access to Your wisdom through prayer, and be strengthened by a desire to serve You. Send the Holy Spirit to be his comforter and chief advisor,5 for the President faces daily trials I’m incapable of appreciating. Grant him the gifts of leadership6 and wisdom,7 but above all, turn his heart toward you.
Reveal my own unrighteous mind-set toward our leaders, and give me a conviction to pray for them without bias. May President Obama seek your favor and be blessed; may he serve as an ambassador of your Kingdom as he leads our nation. Above all, may your name be glorified in America.
Amen.
