Free Prayer Guide from American Psalms

Free Prayer Guide from American PsalmsThe countdown to the National Day of Prayer has started. Are you ready to start praying for the leaders of our country?

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Regardless of your political views, God calls each of us to pray for those in authority over us.  American Psalms and Kingdom Knight Productions believe it’s important to pray for our leaders by name. That’s why—in addition to our devotional book on praying for the nation, American Psalms: Prayers for the Christian Patriot (Available in PrintKindle and Nook formats)—Kingdom Knight Productions offers a free Prayer Guide for use in your Prayer Ministry, National Day of Prayer gathering, small group or personal devotions. It includes Prayer Points, Scriptures and the names of individuals you can be praying for in our nation. As positions change in our government this guide will be updated, so check back when you need new copies. Please contact us if your organization has questions or would like bulk discounts on copies of our book for your National Day of Prayer event.

Praying for America in the New Year

Flag on BarnThe new year is a great time to dedicate yourself to praying for our nation. As we move into 2013, pray for God to reveal in our own hearts any prejudices that keep us from praying for those in authority over us. Are you unable to pray for your boss, our senators or even the president because you disagree with them? If the Bible teaches us to pray for those in authority over us, then we’re called to overcome those feelings. Remember as we pray for others in the new year that we must often ask God to change us first.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what areas of the nation He wants you to be praying for this year. If you need help getting started, please read The First Prayer page from this blog. You may also consider using our weekly devotional book, American Psalms: Prayers for the Christian Patriot.

A Prayer for the New Year
by Joshua J Masters
Father of New Beginnings, your love and compassion is new every morning.1 I come before you, standing at the threshold of a new year, with a dedicated and contrite heaBefore I step into this new season, make clear to me anything I need to leave behind. Reveal my sin. Expose any unforgiving or negative thoughts in my heart so they might be left here—for you have said:

“Forget the former things;
Do not dwell in the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.”
(Isaiah 43:18-19)

Whatever trials I’ve been facing, I place them in your hands. Teach me, in this new year, to seek a closer relationship with you—for you have promised to draw near to those who seek you.During this year, I am dedicated to reading your Word, listening for your direction, praying and fasting. I also commit myself to praying for America and for those in authority over me.3

Only you know the end from the beginning,4 and I trust in your sovereignty. You know exactly what our nation will face this year, and I ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what I should be praying for.

Give me a heart for the president and his family, even when I disagree with him. Erase any prejudice of partisanship from within me so I might pray for your will over my own. Teach me how to serve my community and country by serving the Kingdom, and allow me to encourage other Christians to pray for our nation. I ask for your blessing on America this year. May you be given glory for our prosperity, and may we seek you in times of trouble.
AMEN.

Prayer Points: Anti-American Demonstrations Around the World

President Obama and Secretary Clinton honor those who were killed in Libya as their remains are brought home.

Since the first anti-American demonstrations started in Cairo, Egypt last week, the situation has escalated to violent protests against the United States and Israel in more than twenty countries including Australia.

Four embassy workers have been murdered including the US ambassador to Libya, and the protests continue to grow in number and violence. This is a critical moment for our country and it is vital that Christian patriots come together in prayer. Please join American Psalms in praying for the families of those who were lost in the attacks and for the safety of those still serving at our embassies across the Middle East and around the world.

AS WE PRAY TOGETHER, CONSIDER THESE PRAYER POINTS:

  • Pray for the families of those who have been killed in the attacks, and that the Holy Spirit would be sent to comfort them. Be sure to pray for them by name:
-Sean Smith, retired Air force. He leaves behind his wife, Heather and two children.
-Tyrone “Rone” Woods, former Navy Seal. Rone is survived by his wife Dorothy and three sons.
-Glen “Bub” Doherty, former Navy Seal. He leaves behind his parents, Barbara and Bernard, along with his sister and brother.
-J. Christopher Stevens, US Ambassador to Libya. The Ambassador is survived by friends, family and co-workers.
  • Pray for the safety of Americans and Israeli citizens and embassy workers who are in countries seeing violent protests.
  • Pray for Secretary of State Clinton as she addresses the tensions and unrest in the Middle East toward the United States.
  • Pray for President Obama, that he might seek God’s wisdom above his own and be granted discernment when the difficult decisions, which are sure to come, are placed before him.
  • Pray that America might be seen as a light of compassion and forgiveness, but with unwavering strength.
  • In these difficult days, pray for the American church to rise up and represent Christianity with the true will of God, not our own.
  • Pray also for Israel as the anti-Jewish sentiment rises in these protests.

Please post your prayer points and prayers in the comments below.

A Short Prayer of Sincerity

Have you ever been in a small group or meeting where you had to pray in front of other people? It can be stressful. Sometimes we think a ”good prayer” has to be complicated and flowery. In fact, sometimes I feel that way when it’s just me and God. The truth is, God doesn’t need complicated prayers; he’d much rather have prayers of sincerity. You don’t need to have a history degree, been to Shakespeare workshops or have attended seminary to pray for our nation. God cares more about your heart than what’s in your head. It’s better to say several short prayers throughout the day rather than be intimidated by the “perfect prayer” and never interceding for the nation at all. Join me in this simple prayer for America:

Father God,
Your Word calls us to pray for those in authority over us (1Tim 2:1-4), so I lift up our president; may he seek your wisdom above his own and may his family be blessed. Give the gifts of discernment and leadership to those who negotiate with other nations on our behalf. Send the Holy Spirit to comfort military families who miss their loved ones while extending your hand of protection to those who are deployed. Above all, may your name be glorified in America.
Amen.

Worship Through Service

“I can only show my gratitude for these mercies from God, by a readiness to help his other children and my brethren.”  -Benjamin Franklin

As Christian patriots, we are called to be a part of our community. Christianity is not about our own spiritual development for the sake of knowledge, but for the sake of becoming an ambassador of God’s compassion and mercy to the world.

Billy Graham said, “The most eloquent prayer is the prayer through hands that heal and bless. The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service. The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless.” That is the very heart of Christianity. It is impossible to truly grasp God’s grace in our lives without developing a desire to show grace toward others.

The needs of our community is the responsibility of the church. If we are the body of Christ, then we should be reaching out to those who are in need. It’s all well and good to pray for change in America, but how often do we pray for guidance to be that change? Remember, you have to live the good news before you can share the good news.
